I randomly stumbled upon this little shooter (who’s name I think is ‘Gasuto’ by chance whilst browsing the vast depths of the internet.

It didn’t strike me as much when I first saw it, with it’s monochrome, basic looking screen shots. Well how looks decieve.

I’m pretty sure that this game uses an astounding 16 colors on-screen. This limitation would have been very hard to overcome whilst creating the game, I should imagine. Because of this look the game looks pretty stylish in my opinion and the look works quite well, though on a very few occasions you can loose objects on-screen when similar colored objects overlap.

The actual game is actually pretty tough. You start out with only 2 lives but soon gain a few extra. There is a power up system and bosses… it’s all there in this tiny game, which is a very fun option, if you are looking to fill an hour or so.

Ahh, I almost forgot. The music. I have to add that I quite liked the midi tunes emitting from my speakers during this shooter.
Good stuff overall. I’d credit more… but the problem is I can’t read any japanese, which is what language the original site is in.
[edit] After a little bit of internet sleuthing I found the authors name: is ‘Pixel’. No idea past that.

Guxt Name:

Also I’ve seen a few places call this game “Guxt”… but I think that ‘guxt’ stands for ‘Gasuto XT‘ personally. If you (as I did) use Google translation, the Japanese name that precedes this titles download is clearly “Gasuto” - though whether or not that is a translation error, i don’t know. I think the reason people think it’s called ‘Guxt’ is because the file name of the zip is “guxt_1001_wz.zip”.

  1. The title screen clearly says “Guxt” in lower case.
