dub’s musical (mis)adventures
June 27, 2006 on 6:44 pm | In Audio, doodles, blog |So I’m about to upgrade my PC and am backing stuff off my old drives and I come by my ‘audio’ folder. Basically this is full of old music I made way back when I could be bothered.
In advance… I am no music maker nor am I gifted with any musical ability what so ever. I can’t read notes anymore and I can’t play a musical instrument either.
I used to “make” music purely because it was so fun to make… In other words, I’m telling you that these blurbs are pretty shit and nothing special, especially to someone who actually can make music.
In my defense, I must point out that I do not use loops or pre-made patterns or midi tracks as a base for my music. Most of the blurbs/music I make is composed note for note. (trial and error, if you must ask “how then?”
Another thing to note, is that for the most part these tracks are “blurbs” - so not full length tracks or songs and should by no means be considered “full, finished tracks”, but rather short loops that if worked on or taken further could lead to a track.
I thought it’d have been a total waste if these tracks never saw the light of day, so here they are, for all 2 of you to enjoy.

“Joff’s Mom, aber servus“
Samples recorded on a mini disk, sequenced in Fruity Loops - 1996(?)
This track was made around 1996/7 in a friends apartment in Vienna. We were bored and decided to record samples around the house. With those samples we (more like Josef) made a track… all in a few hours. It’s obviously a pretty shit track, but it was hyper fun to make and all done with samples we created right there. :]
We dropped, hit, bent, and smashed all sorts of objects and made weird sounds with our mouths to get the sounds for this track.
“Tip Off“
Fruity Loops - 2001
So called, because I was trying to ‘rip off’ the Tipper style or at least be influenced by it… failed miserably and what I made instead was this track.
“The Shadow of Kanji“
Fruity Loops - 2001
First time playing with sound effects such as wind and heart beat. Ended up being used in a chase sequence animation a friend at university made. Was semi-inspired by the Akira soundtrack.
“Bruce Lee Sci-Fi High-Fi“
Fruity Loops - 2001
Another track were I played with sound effects.
Unnamed track I planned for TTR
Reason - 2001/2
My first attempt at trying to sound orchestral… somewhat proud of this one at it almost sounds like something you could call a ‘melody’. I used to map for a UT World War II mod called ‘The Third Reich” and though maybe I could make a track for it… luckily for us (and the few people who actually played the mod), a real musician joined the team.
“Got Cash“
Reason - 2002/3
Named as such because the day I made this track I was broke and I got sent some cash. Weird electroish blurb.
“Uhh Ahhh what a tune“
Reason - 2002/3
Real short blurb made in a few minutes, but somehow sounds appealing.
“HipHop blurb 4“
Reason - 2002/3
Short hip hopish sounding blurb.
“LoZ“
Reason - 2003
“Sense“
Reason - 2003
I love trumpets :]
“Whatagwan[Brass]“
Reason - 2006
Originally meant to go in a different direction I added loads of brass elements to this blurb.
- I’ll more embarrassing tracks when I’ve converted more over to MP3 from their current .wav format.
